Class ‘Abdullah

  • The Imam, the erudite, the judge, the confidant and servant of the Messenger of God ﷺ. He was the custodian of the blessed sandals of the Prophet ﷺ, placing them upon his feet whenever he stood and holding them in his forearms whenever be sat down ﷺ, until he was ready to stand. Abu Musã al-Ash’ari used to say, ‘When my brother and I first came from Yemen, we used to believe that 'Abdu’llah bin mas’ud was from the family of the Prophet ﷺ, due to how both he and his mother used to frequent the house of the Prophet ﷺ.’

    He was short in height, slight in physique, of an extremely dark complexion and his hair used to reach his collarbone. He was of the best dressed and most fragrant of people and could easily be discerned by night due to his fragrance.

    He used to wear an iron ring and was considered from the foremost minds and bearers of knowledge from amongst the Companions.

    He died thirty-two years after the Migration in Medinah at the age of sixty-three.
