Class Abu Bakr
-
was the only Companion whose parents, children and grandchildren were also Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ.
He was a man who was fair in complexion, with a golden undertone, curly hair, sparse side-burns, slight in physique, and a slightly hunched bearing with thin legs. His eyes were deep set and he had a high forehead, an aquiline nose and the base of his fingers were hairless. He used to dye his hair using henna and katam.
Prior to Islam, his name was Abdul-Ka'bah, so the Messenger of God ﷺ changed it to Abdu’Llah and he thereafter earned the title as-Siddiq, due to his truthfulness and unwavering conviction in the Messenger of God. He was the first adult male to embrace the faith and he was the only Companion to be referred to as such by God, exalted be He, in the Quran. God, exalted be He, says,
'Second of the two, when they were in the cave, he said to his companion, 'Do not fear, for God is with us?" He was a man of great virtue and profound spirit and is considered to be the greatest of all of the Companions.
He was the father of 'Aishah, the beloved wife of the Messenger of God ﷺ; the first representative of the way of prophecy after the Messenger of God ﷺ and he will be the first Muslim to enter Paradise. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah; the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Gabriel came unto me and took me by the hand and then showed me the gateway through which my nation will enter Paradise. So Abu Bakr said, 'Would that I was with you, so that I could have gazed upon it' (The Prophet ﷺ) replied, 'Verily, you are the first of my nation to enter Paradise?" He used to say, 'Desire death and you will be gifted life. He died at the age of sixty-three in Medinah, between Maghrib and Isha on Tuesday, the twenty-second of Jumadal-Akhirah; thirteen years after the Migration; two years, three months and a few nights after the death of the Messenger of God ﷺ. He was buried beside the Messenger of God ﷺ, a fitting place of rest for someone who was more often than not found beside the Prophet a during his lifetime. Beautiful in life; beautiful in death.
